You have heard us talk about ‘trading integrity for political expediency’ before on this site, some of this year’s politicos were a perfect example of this.
Tim Shaw and Daren Nigsarian went for political expediency. Unfortunately, the voters did not get any mailers or newspaper ads alerting them to these two.
O.K. folks, normally we don’t like to post e-mails that we get from viewers that can comment to a post. However, once in awhile we get a e-mail that just needs posting.
This came in a few days ago.
I find it funny that these 3 candidates Dobkin, Ortega, and Shapiro are against Measure T, But want to spend money for other programs. Not one of these candidates Dobkin, Ortega, and Shapiro have said how the will fund their lofty goals or find the money to do any thing. I also think some of the goals are great redoing downtown is a great idea, but again where are you going to get the money.
We are not aware of any programs that any of these candidates are promoting. Second, redoing downtown has been in the works for 50 years and has been the biggest waste of time, money and energy. Every time the city has gotten involved with “redoing” downtown, it looks worse and it costs the tax payers money – the city was sued by business’ of the last facade improvement that the city spearheaded. O.K., we know that we reported on this a few weeks ago and we also posted video of Nigsarian from the City Council interviews where he states his desire to tax the citizens of La Habra. However, now we have video of Nigsarian’s response to Candidate Shapiroaccusing him of wanting to tax water in the Video Link Below.
It is amazing to see Nigsarain lie with such ease when only a few months prior to the League of Women Voters forum he was giving careful, detailed explanations of why we need more taxes and how he would personally guarantee getting a hotel tax passed. AND WANTING TO TAX WATER AS A WAY TO GENERATE REVENUE!
Watch this video and immediately e-mail your friends cause this guy is lying before he even gets into office.
City Council Candidate Larry Dobkin got it right at last weeks council meeting when he accused the city of illegally campaigning for Measure-T and asking them if another mailer was coming out – of which he got no response.
This time, City Manager Hannah has recruited Police Chief Dennis Kies to be a party to this charade as a larger (8.5″x11″), more expensive 4 page color brochure arrived yesterday in the mail (Oct. 30) with Chief Kies giving a full accounting of the dangers if Measure-T does not pass.
He states that “..cuts will have to be implemented that may significantly impact public services.” Since when did the Police Chief decide about what is going to be cut in the P.D budget? At the Candidates Forum, Councilman Beamish and Espinoza both stated that they would not cut the PD’s Read the rest of this entry »
La Habra’s Politicians, those who feed at the trough of the taxpayer and other elitists, have finally come out of the closet and put their names on ballot Measure-T, the 20 year sales tax.
The mailers are replete with chalked out murder scenes with dangling and torn crime scene tape, followed by the fear mongering by line “You Never Want to Get This Call!” Of course, none of this will happen if you pass the 20 year sales tax.
The mailers are big, letter size color flyers that have come via the postman. Two received yesterday were interesting, to say the least. One of the flyers had the names of La Habra’s mostly elite endorsing the tax. And of course there is Lyle Parks , ultra wealthy contractor/developer of the Westridge retail center on Beach and Imperial Hwy., who endorse the sales tax. Along with a bunch of city employees and out of town real estate agents, The Doomis’s and a host of usual suspects that feed at the incestious trough of the city.
Keep watching as we get ready to post the pages of the those donors of the Yes on Measure
Another amazing item that we found, the Yes On Measure-T website (welovelh.com) has nobody endorsing the sales tax measure.
If you go to the site and try to click on the “Endorsements” link you will find it is not active. Why? Because none of the incumbents up for re-election, Rose Espinoza(D), Tom Beamish(R), and candidates Darren Nigsarian(D), Tim Shaw(R), will risk running on the tax for fear of losing.
While they all support the Sales Tax increase, they refuse to put their verbal commitments into print or on their individual web sites.
Come on you guys’ and gal. Be proud of your stance on raising taxes on your constituents during this country’s biggest economic crisis since the great depression. All of you are brilliantly articulate about why we need the tax when you speak to your supporters but you become very different when speaking to the public.
You can see Tim Shaw & Darren Nigsarian discussing why they are for the tax by clicking on the “Video” link in the Categories Box to the right side of this page.
These folks are covertly running on the tax while at the same time they are running away from it when it comes to their campaign material or speaking to the public.
When city council’s get a guaranteed revenue stream they usually want to realize the funds immediately by bonding against it. This will do two things; Thwart a recall of the measure after it is passed because bonds are tied to it and in-debt the taxpayers for years.
Our City Council can actually bond against the Tax once it passes. This would explain why the reported phone calls came from Boston, although they could come from N.Y., as there are plenty of bond companies that would have a stake in seeing a 20 year sales tax be passed in La Habra.
More food for thought for when we go to the polls next week.
We’ve had numerous e-mails complaining that telephone marketing from actual live callers, not automated computer calls, from the city of Boston, Mass. in support of Measure-T have been hiting homes in our city. Many angry voters have expressed their displeasure with folks from an extremely Liberal state, telling La Habran’s what would be best for them.
We can only surmise at this point, that the ”We Love La Habra – so taxes us hard and long group” will go to any lengths to drain us of our money.
If you go this link, “Socialist La Habran’s Who Know Whats Best For You” web site, you can see the idiots in action. The arguments are weak and promise everything if you only pass the tax. From Erectile Dysfunction to solving MassTransit Issues, the T-Tax will do it all.
Given the economy, it is highly unlikely Measure T will pass. The rumblings out in the hinterland of La Habra appear to be two fold:
Since 1992, when the Utility Tax was illegally passed by the council, $60,000,000 has been taken from the residents – This includes the sales tax from newer retail developments.
A lack of trust in the current city council to manage and account for monies from any tax.
The existing city council has squandered the money on everything but what the money was promised for: Public safety.
When we begin to tally up the unsound, fiscally irresponsible actions of the council, it is no wonder that confidence is waning when they demand WE pay more.
The La Habra City Council must have been choking after councilman Jim Gomez asked Bob Huff, our 60th Assembly District Representative, to speak at the last council meeting and he pounded the anti-tax theme
As the video shows, Bob Huff is very articulate and convincing in his speech against taxes and he makes Republicans proud to know that there is a Republican out there who will toe the line against taxes.
Showing the true measure of a statesmen ready for the Senate, Mr. Huff gives the most poignant line of the entire year about taxes;
“Taxes that are passed with the intention of creating revenue, actually have the opposite effect in a downward economy.”
We could not have said it better! The only problem is that our council and half of the candidates running for office think that Measure-T, the sales tax, will bring in more income. We are only puzzled that Steve Simonian didn’t jump up and call Huff a liar, as he normally treats people who have conviction, the facts on there side and the audacity to contradict him
Watch this video and realize there are elected officials outside this town, that you support, that speak the same warning words as those you would vilify simply because they are not your councilman. Being a good party loyalist, if that’s what your are, simply means you will at least hold identical core values, such as Assemblyman Huff, of the Republican party. Like NO TAXES if you are a Republican. If this is who you are, then why do you keep voting for the same pathetic sellouts?
Political hacks that pander to you while draining the publics coffers to keep you happy, then you get mad that your police force has shrunken, your, roads look like a third world country and you won’t even blame those in office, to the contrary, you vote for them again thinking they can save you.
Wake up! Stop thinking that government can be the arbiter of your happiness. Its actually cathartic, to be free of dependence on others for that which you should rely on yourself to be responsible for: self-determination.
Taxes are bad. Politicians who pass them are bad too. Its that simple.
Back in 2005 the Orange County Register, you know the paper that Councilman Simonian stated in a council meeting he cancelled because of their biased reporting, ran a editorial staff story on Measure G – the utility tax.
Here’s what they wrote on Oct. 15, 2005
“Our analysis of the period that the tax has been in effect shows that La Habra’s city government spending has grown faster than the combined rate of inflation plus population growth, a good rule of thumb to use to evaluate spending growth.”
“From 1995 to 2005 the consumer price index rose from 153.7 to 189.4, that is a 23.2% increase.”
and
“The combination of inflation and population growth equals 37 percent for that period.”
So what did this all mean? Well according to data compiled by the OC Register at that time, La Habra governmental spending went up 94% to $44.9 million in fiscal year (FY) 2003-2004 from $23.2 million in FY 1994-95.
Tax receipts also went up substantially too. From $13.2 million in FY 1994-95 to $20.1 million in FY 2003-04. THAT’S A 52% INCREASE!!!! And our city already has even more big box stores and retail business’s since then!
The differential of sales tax to utility tax is only about a $500,000 to $600,000 and that should shrink as more business’s come on line.
So, if you’re wondering should you vote for The “T” Tax, think about over $60,000,000 collected since 1992, including sales tax from new commercial developments, how come our streets are not paved in gold and our police department cannot have an officer on every corner?
Cause this council blew through it all. Not one damn dime is left but for a bloated budget that they do not have the discipline to live within.
It is time for new leadership. It is time for those who where at the helm during this reckless spending spree to find new hobbies to play at, preferably where they don’t have access to public funds.
Liberal democrat, Daren Nigsarian, is interviewed by the La Habra city council for possible appointment to fill the late Steve Anderson’s council seat. Nigsarian is asked by Councilman Gomez “what is the biggest problem facing La Habra.” Nigsarian responds with blaming the state of CA and for LH’s budget woes, while admitting that LH ”…needs to get its financial house in order.”
Here is where Nigsarian proceeds to describe ways to raise revenue. He uses the term U.T. This is used by all of those at city hall that support the tax and is a way in which candidates, like Taxing Tim Shaw and Nail ‘em Nigsarain, can speak about a tax without really mentioning it.
The Taxing ideas begin about 1:16 into it. We apologize for the length of the clip, but Daren likes to hear himself talk.
We have heard the scuttle butt around town about the sales tax intitiative, Measure-T, and how much it will cost you when you buy a car.
Well, the real story is that if Measure-T passes and you reside in the city of La Habra, then NO MATTER WHERE YOU BUY A CAR IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA YOU WILL PAY THE HIGHER TAX RATE HERE.
Thats right, you cannot escape the new tax when you buy a car unless you lie about your address on the form that gets filed with the Department of Motor Vehicles and doing that would be a bad thing.
We have been provided the full video tape of the city council’s interview of individuals for the open seat on city council from a couple of months ago.
Previously, digitized footage was sent to us of Tim Shaw which we posted on You Tube and linked here.
Now we have the exclusive footage of the interviews for all those trying to get the appointment.
This is utterly amazing to watch. Daren Nigsarain, local Democrat who was virtually unknown till five years ago, states that he would TAX WATER of every resident in La Habra!!!!! He doesn’t stop there. Oh no, he has his creative taxing juices up and nobodys wallet is safe!
We are ripping this file and we will have it up as soon as possible for your viewing enjoyment.
OC Register Columnist Steve Greenhut slams City Manager Don Hannah over campaign material supporting “Measure T” the sales tax increase, as well as claiming ”it is one of the most egregious examples I’ve ever seen of a campaign mailer masquerading as an info piece.”
“…it is pure, unadulterated campaign literature designed to promote a yes vote on a tax increase.” writes Greenhut
Finally, someone outside the city bounderies is taking notice of what is happening in this town. To view the entire article click here.
On July 21, 2008 La Habra Republican candidate for city council, Tim Shaw, takes the podium to speak in favor of the council putting the Sales Tax Initiative on the Ballot.
What is the world coming to when Republicans start endorsing more taxes, Democrats advocating banning abortion?
