You have heard us talk about ‘trading integrity for political expediency’ before on this site, some of this year’s politicos were a perfect example of this.
Tim Shaw and Daren Nigsarian went for political expediency. Unfortunately, the voters did not get any mailers or newspaper ads alerting them to these two.
Tim hid his past activities of supporting taxes in this town from most, if not all, of his big Republican endorsers. If they had known, many would not have endorsed Him. Tim’s role as Treasure of the Yes On G – Users Utility Tax Committee was never disclosed by Tim to his GOP friends or Party. The same goes for his support of the hotel and sales tax measures. If it had been known, well there would have been a whole lot of open space on his mailers.
Only three months prior to the League of Gals forum, Daren interviewed for the open seat on the council. He fully supported bringing back the Users Utility Tax, Hotel Tax, and implementing a Water Tax. He made these statements because he believed that’s what this council wanted to hear. It was what Daren thought would get him appointed. Later he denied saying this on camera at the League Forum.
It absolutely befuddles the brain to contemplate the minds of voters in this town. But when one realizes that most have no idea what the hell is really going on in this town, then it becomes perfectly clear why they tolerate these people.
Well take heart all who come here, times are changing. We see it in every election. It has become increasingly more difficult for the power structure in this town to get what they want. Because good challengers are coming forward, debating the real issues, calling out bad practices, the good old boys are having to expend more and more political capitol to get what they want.
Rome wasn’t built in a day and La Habra’s ruling class won’t go away quietly. But politics is accumlative and the last 15 years the opposition has amassed a huge amount of political capitol, almost enough to create a level playing field in the minds of the voters and thats where the battle will be won.
